The boop-boop-a-doop trial got under way Tuesday with Helen Kane, original boopadooper, three imitation boop girls (Mae Questel, Margie Hines & Bonnie Poe) and several thousand yeards of Betty Boop cartoon film on hand for the enlightenment of Justice McGoldrick. Max Fleischer, proxy for the cellulose Betty, averred Miss Kane was far from his thoughts when he conceived his cartoon character which has bounced and booped through 47 reels in the last five years. Miss Kane wants $250,000 damages from fleischer and the Paramount-Publix corporation, on the ground that Betty Boop is a caricature of herself. She also wants Betty stopped by injunction.
